| Was Tien considered a valuable fighter in the Android/Cell saga | |

As we know, in DBZ the humans quickly become irrelivant. However, I think Tien did have some relivance in the Android/Cell saga. The reason I say this is because when the Androids attacked, Krillen and Yamcha seemed to be considered almost useless. Tien on the other hand stood with Goku and Piccolo, ready to fight 19 and 20. Was this just because of Tiens warrior spirit, or was he considered an important part of the team? I'm wondering if they knew about the Neo-Tribeam. That really made Tien much more usefull than Yamcha and Krillen. Whenever they were in for a battle, Tien always seemed confident and at the forefront. I wonder if the Z fighters planned that, if things went south, Tien would hold down the enemy with a Tri-beam. |

Honestly I always thought just how he stood there with Goku, Piccolo, and Gohan I think he was an important part of the team. Tien has no fear so I don't see him there just to be there but I see him there to fight if he gets dragged in. |

I see what you mean. But I remember what he said being more like "If you see them, get myself or Vegeta". Tien clearly wasn't a main fighter, but he held a trump card that the others didnt. |

I think Tien wasn't nearly as important as the Saiyans or Piccolo, but he was semi useful at least. He and Piccolo and Goku faced off against the androids. He went searching for Android 20 (Krillin did as well, but either way). He searched with Piccolo for Cell, and he held of Semi Perfect Cell. I'm a Tien fan, but I'd be lying if I said he was a key aspect of the Android Saga.Though I'd also be lying if I said he was useless. They sure did not act like he was useless throughout the saga. Piccolo implied that the humans were trash, but Tien did still help out when he held back Semi-Cell, I guess. But of course, he simply delayed what was kind of the inevitable, so....I don't think he was as valuable a fighter as some try to make him out to be. But I suppose he was of some value, nonetheless. Just by looking at his quotes for that saga on Herms strength checker you can tell he's useless :P

Don't think so, to be honest. Tien is probably my second favorite character ever from the show and it's always annoyed me how forgotten he got after the Android saga, but I really don't believe his relevance throughout the Android Saga and especially during the Cell Saga was much higher or higher at all than Krillin's and Yamcha's. He seemed more confident in himself than the other 2 and he definitely ended up being a useful fighter when he (successfully) tried to hold back Cell from absorbing Android 18, but I don't think his relevance as part of the Z Warriors was studied or precalculated as you suggest. The reason why he was more upfront about fighting than Krillin and Yamcha is the fact that Tien has never really had a significant storyline on the show other than being a warrior. Krillin and Yamcha both had other aspects of their lives and personalities deeply explored, like their love lives and their role as comic relief... whereas Tien was consistently shown as a fighter only (he did have that little thing with Launch on DB but most of what was seen on TV was actually filler). So in my opinion that is why whenever they showed all the Z Warriors ready to fight during the Android saga Tien was always highlighted as a more competent fighter than the rest of the humans. His actual relevance to the fights didn't seem that mugh higher than the other 2 though. |

I don't think it was Tien's fault though. If 16 and 18 actually had gotten the hell out of there when he started, they would have gotten away. I love that line actually. Tien (after working his ***** off to hold Cell back): "CAN YOU TWO GET THE HELL OUT OF HERE!" Edited by sylentknyte, Oct 8 2012, 09:15 PM.

I specifically love how on the show it took almost an entire episode for Android 18 and 16 to get out of that damn island LOL. You just wanna scream "Y U NO MOVE, IDIOTS?!" at the screen. |

Idk why Tien, Krillin, Yamcha, Piccolo and Chiaotsu weren't given kaioken after training with King Kai. It would've helped keep the humans relevant when they started to fall behind. |

Yeh, this definitely contributes to it, I guess. Perhaps if #16 and #18 and went far, far away (to Narnia), then Semi-Cell probz wouldn't have been able to trick Veggie into letting him become perfect. |

Obviously not. If he wasn't holding back Semi Perfect Cell, Cell would've not only absorbed 18, but killed 16 for trying to defend her. Not only that, but he probably would've killed Vegeta for being too weak to do anything to him in his Perfect state, along with Cell. He wouldn't have been impressed enough with their power, IMO. |
